Alleged drunk driver careens down ravine in Palm Desert

A suspected drunk driver is behind bars after he lost control of his sedan and ended up in a ditch, officials reported.

Mark Adam Lopez, 22, of Palm Desert was arrested after officers arrived just before 1 a.m. this morning to the intersection of Country Club Drive and Harris Lane.

Deputies learned Lopez struck a median, drove up a curb and down a ravine. He then plowed into a business sign belonging to Sure Self Storage.

“The vehicle came to a stop in front of the Desert Oasis apartment complex and the driver fled on foot into the apartment complex,” Sgt. Radek Horkel stated in a sheriff’s report.

Officers found Lopez and arrested him.

He was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
