A 23-year-old Los Angeles woman is expected to be arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter in connection with the collision that killed a 22-year-old Chinese student studying electrical engineering at USC, police said Monday.
Keysi Idania Cifuentes Lopez remained hospitalized today. She was driving a 1995 Ford Explorer west on Hyde Park Boulevard and failed to stop for a red light and hit a 2012 Ford Mustang going north on West Boulevard, police said.
The collision occurred about 2:55 a.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Dana Adams of the South Traffic Division.
The intersection is about five miles southwest of USC.
Xinhai Huang, a passenger in the Mustang, died at a hospital from his injuries.
The driver of the Mustang was Justin Wayne Rawls, 26, of Los Angeles.
His injuries were not life threatening.
He and Xinhai were close friends.
Huang was on the USC dean’s list.
Anyone with information about the collision was asked to call detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500.
