A San Jacinto man was arrested today after allegedly shooting himself accidentally, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report.

Jon Wigelsworth, 34, was standing in front of his home when he shot himself with a “small caliber hand gun” in the thigh, one official said.

An officer from the San Jacinto Police Department responded at about 5:30 a.m. Monday morning to Hemet Valley Hospital regarding the gunshot victim.

Wigelsworth’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was released from the hospital.

However, the San Jacinto resident “was taken into custody for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, being under the influence of narcotics and child endangerment,” said  Sgt. David Haar.

He was transported and booked into Larry Smith Correctional Facility without incident.
