A semi-truck struck a fire hydrant while making a delivery to Wal-Mart in Murrieta, sending a tremendous spray of water into the night sky.

The incident occurred just after 8 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Murrieta Wal-Mart store located at 41200 Madison Avenue.

The Wal-Mart truck was making a delivery near the receiving area in the eastern edge of the parking lot when the driver mistakenly backed the trailer over a fire hydrant.

The hydrant was severed, sending a geyser of water over 50 feet into the air.

The Murrieta Police Department and Murrieta Fire Department responded to the crash and firefighters were able to shut the water off within about 15 minutes.

The driver was not injured in the accident.

There was minimal damage to the truck.
