The California Highway Patrol in Indio will offer a free “Smart Start” teen driver class tonight for parents and teenagers.
The 6:30 p.m. class includes information designed to help teenagers who are about to, or have already received, their driver’s licenses become better equipped to handle situations behind the wheel.
The class is held periodically, and tonight’s session was added “due to recent events and an increase in demand,” CHP Officer Joe Zagorski said.
Earlier this month, an 18-year-old boy was killed in a crash in Indio in which the driver, his 18-year-old friend, was allegedly driving under the influence.
The class is open to young people 15 to 19 years old.
Reservations are required, and participating teens must be accompanied by a parent.
