A hiker died today, and another was injured in a fall down an embankment in the Eaton Canyon area near Altadena, according to authorities.

Firefighters were sent at about 11:30 a.m., to the 2200 block of Pinecrest Drive on a report that the hikers had fallen about 200 feet, said county fire Inspector Quvondo Johnson.
One person died, and the other was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries, Johnson said.
The name of the fatally-injured person was not immediately released.
The circumstances of the death were under investigation.
