‘The Soup’s’ Joel McHale to dish out laughs at Pechanga show
"I'm just glad that people (want to have fun). There's never a bad time to laugh," McHale said.

Joel McHale will perform Feb. 6 at Pechanga.
Joel McHale was just a bit late for the phone interview, but had a perfectly good reason.
“I forgot,” McHale said, explaining that he was busy watching his two young sons and time had just gotten away from him.
It is understandable. And refreshing, too, to find that the star of NBC’s hit comedy “Community” and host of E! Network’s comedic take on celebrity, “The Soup” knows how to keep it real.
And that’s just what McHale plans for his audiences when he performs at Pechanga’s Showroom Theater on Feb. 6.
“I know a lot of the people will come to the show because they watch “The Soup.” So, the show will (feature) a lot of pop culture, a lot about my family,”‘ McHale said, adding that audiences can count on some improvisation as well.
McHale seemed a little surprised to learn that due to the overwhelming response to his sold out 8 p.m. show, Pechanga has had to add a second performance at 10:30 p.m.
“I’m just glad that people (want to have fun). There’s never a bad time to laugh,” McHale said, acknowledging the recession’s impact on Southwest Riverside residents. “Boom or bust for the economy, I have found that people want to be entertained.”
McHale has earned a loyal following of fans since taking the helm of “The Soup,” a show that shines a humorous light on programs like “Access Hollywood.”
“We try to make fun of the coverage (that celebrities receive). We cover the coverage of celebrities,” McHale said, noting the silliness and sometimes absurdities of the Hollywood paparazzi machine. “We’re equal opportunity make-funner-of-ers.”
Having grown up in Seattle, McHale is a graduate of the University of Washington and has enjoyed a steadily advancing career in film and television. He has appeared in such movies as “Spider-Man 2,” “Pushing Daisies” and “Lords of Dogtown.” McHale can also be seen in the NBC comedy hit “Community” on Thursday nights at 8 p.m.
McHale said that this show is not part of a tour. In fact, it is his first trip to Temecula and he shared that he is excited to perform in the Pechanga Showroom Theater.
“I was just talking to someone the other day who was telling me what a nice venue it is,” he said, adding that he hopes to get a good feel for the community as he performs on stage.
