Southwest Riverside restaurateurs and winery owners are being sought to purchase tasting booth spaces for Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education’s inaugural fundraiser, the Taste of Temecula Valley, to take place April 17-18.
The foundation is also seeking corporate sponsors for the two-day event to be held at the new Town Square in Old Town Temecula. The event is a partnership between the foundation, the Temecula Valley Unified School District, Riverside County and the city, with the proceeds benefitting the more than 29,000 district students in grades kindergarten through 12th, according to a news release.
The event has a 20-year history in the valley, as it was previously hosted by the Community Recreation Center Building Foundation. Funds from the original festival were used to construct the Community Recreation Center now at Ronald Reagan Sports Park in Temecula.
The Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education hopes to follow in its footsteps, but this time with the goal of funding art, science and technology enhancement in all Temecula Valley schools.
“Then, as now, we’re holding the Taste of Temecula Valley for the kids,” said Mark Katan, event chair. “This event will be good for our local economy, and it benefits students in our district.
“With budget cuts and federal and state funding shortfalls, our schools need community support now more than ever,” Katan said in a written statement. “The foundation’s goal is to alleviate the fundraising burden from parents and administrators by planning events that benefit all schools in the Temecula district.”
Patrons will enjoy wine, food and live music and entertainment by local students and professional performers.
“It will provide a unique opportunity to sample menu items and wines from the local area all in one location. Eventually, we see Taste of Temecula Valley drawing visitors from across the state and nation to Old Town,” Katan said.
“It will be a showcase for Temecula and area businesses and, like the Balloon and Wine Festival, will be an event visitors will want to attend every year. Best of all, it benefits kids – what could be better?”
Donations are tax-deductible; sponsors, vendors and local entertainers wanting to participate can call Mark Katan at 951-283-5305.
