Tim Conway to bring pure fun to Pechanga Resort & Casino

“It’s so much fun. It really is. We don’t have a place for this kind of comedy, because television doesn’t do it anymore. Unless the Kardashians decide to do a variety show,” said Conway with his signature spry sense of humor.

Legendary comedian Tim Conway is set to bring his special brand of light-hearted, ad-lib comedy to Southwest Riverside at 8 p.m. on March 13 at the Showroom Theater at Pechanga Resort & Casino.

Conway will be joined by two talents – Louise DuArt and Chuck McCann — for a show of slapstick sketches that are sure to have audiences rolling in the aisles. The show is part of a year-long tour that will take the “Tim Conway and Friends” show across the country through November.

“It’s so much fun. It really is. We don’t have a place for this kind of comedy, because television doesn’t do it anymore. Unless the Kardashians decide to do a variety show,” said Conway with his signature spry sense of humor.

The tour is a way of giving audiences what they are missing – genuinely funny sketches that don’t rely on language or nudity for laughs, said Conway in a phone interview.

“I see Carol (Burnett) as often as possible and she does the same kind of thing, touring. She’s found, like I have, that people are still happy with the memories of (our comedic era). People are in search of this. There’s nowhere else you can find it,” Conway said.

Conway has enjoyed a steady and loyal following of fans who remember his work in such iconic venues as “The Carol Burnett Show,” appearances on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,” “The Dean Martin Show” and in films like Disney’s “The Apple Dumpling Gang.”

And when it comes to being an integral part of such an illustrious comedic history, Conway turns thoughtful.

“I don’t think you realize the (history you are making) as you are working and part of it,” Conway said. “For me, it’s really been about the work and the enjoyment I get from doing it. Honestly, I was doing it just to make Harvey (Korman) laugh. It just pleased me to death to make him laugh.”

Conway credits some other industry giants as having inspired him and influenced his work – Steve Allen, Don Knotts, Jackie Gleason and Jonathan Winters, to name a few.

“We all came through an era where television was initiating itself. Everybody was searching for the key to what things (made people laugh). It was all experimental. Being a part of that was special,” Conway said.

At 76, Conway has remained active, continuing to pursue his passion for laughter in a variety of genres, including performing as the voice of Barnacle Bob on Nickelodeon’s animated hit show “SpongeBob SquarePants.”

“I was surprised to find out I was on SpongeBob,” Conway said, laughing. “My granddaughter was the one to tell me that.”

Fans can expect to see Conway and many of his beloved characters at Saturday’s show, including Dorf and the Old Guy, shuffling and mumbling along the way.

Tickets range from $40 to $65. To learn more, visit www.pechanga.com or call 877-7112946.

What a great article! Such an honor to get to interview him, he’s a legend. His performances hold such a special place in my heart, especially when you could tell he was after Harvey’s laugh. I think I’m going to go order some DVD’s right now for my kids. There just isn’t any entertainment now out there like Tim Conway. Hope he comes out to Arizona!
