A pickup truck driver whose taillights allegedly weren’t working led California Highway Patrol officers on a chase early today, but officers flattened the truck’s tires with a spike strip and arrested the driver on suspicion of drunken driving and evading arrest.

Eduardo Villa, 23, of Ontario, was denied bail and booked on suspicion of DUI and evading, according to CHP Officer Sylvia Mosley. A passenger, 24-year-old Luis Villa, was not arrested.

The chase started about 2 a.m., with Villa, who was driving a blue 1993 Chevrolet, refusing to pull over and getting onto southbound Interstate 15, she said.

Officers laid a spike strip for the truck, which came to a stop just north of California Oaks Road, Mosley said.
