A Hemet teen accused of killing a 17-year-old acquaintance and escaping to Mexico with his girlfriend is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon at the Southwest Detention Center near Murrieta, according to a spokesman for District Attorney Rod Pacheco.
Jose Manuel Campos is charged with murder and using a firearm in the killing, said spokesman John Hall. Campos was 17 at the time of the November 2009 killing of Adrian Rios, but he is being prosecuted as an adult.
Campos and girlfriend Felicia Sharp were arrested this week in Mexico. Sharp is being tried at this point in juvenile court.
The pair was turned over to U.S. officials Wednesday after being arrested by Mexican authorities the day before in a residence in the border town of Mexicali.
They were being sought in connection with the death of Rios, who was killed with a .22-caliber pistol and burned in a bonfire in Hemet. The killing shocked many in the community because of the circumstances, including that Rios was tossed in the fire as a way to dispose of the body.
