Charger safety Ellison arrested in Redondo Beach on drug-related allegations

Kevin Ellison, 23, was taken into custody at 2:19 p.m. when he was stopped for speeding in a school zone.

San Diego Charger safety Kevin Ellison was arrested today on suspicion of possessing 100 tablets of Vicodin in Redondo Beach.

Ellison, 23, was taken into custody at 2:19 p.m. when he was stopped for speeding in a school zone, said Sgt. Peter Grimm of the Redondo Beach Police Department.

A search of Ellison’s vehicle turned up the Vicodin.

Ellison was booked on one count of possession of a controlled substance at the Redondo Beach Jail, Grimm said.

Ellison was then released on a $10,000 bail bond and is due in Torrance Superior Court on July 7.

Ellison started nine games as a rookie for the Chargers during the 2009 season, making 52 tackles.

Ellison played four seasons for USC and starred at Redondo Union High School, including being named as the South Bay player of the year in 2004 by the Daily Breeze.
