Jose is a Murrieta resident who has been involved in news gathering for nearly all his life, and professionally since 1984. Growing up in Chula Vista, he was on his junior high school newspaper staff, where he decided this was the career for him, and stayed with it until being hired as a reporter in Sun City by The Press-Enterprise. He has spent the last 20-plus years reporting and editing news in Riverside County. After leaving the PE in September 2008, Jose decided to try his hand at the new media and joined Southwest Riverside News Network as its first editor.

Yazmin Alvarez, assistant editor

Yazmin got the reporting bug while attending Cal State San Bernardino, where she majored in Human Communication before graduating in 2002. A Moreno Valley resident, Yazmin began her career as a reporter at The Press-Enterprise, where she worked out of the Banning office. After leaving the business briefly, Yazmin had stints at The San Bernardino County Sun and Daily Bulletin in Ontario as a reporter. She enjoys rooting for the Dodgers and Pittsburg Steelers.

Toni Mcallister, lifestyles editor

Toni, a Murrieta resident, has written for many national and regional publications and has held several editorial positions throughout her long journalism career. She has also authored several books on equine care. When McAllister is away from the keyboard, she prefers outdoor activities like equestrian sport, hiking, running and biking. She is also a self-described “party girl” who enjoys socializing with friends throughout the Temecula Valley.

Kerri Mabee, entertainment editor

Kerri is a freelance writer and former high school English teacher. Her passion for the works of Steinbeck and Shakespeare inspired her to step out from behind her teacher’s desk and pursue a writing career of her own. Her varying interests in everything from politics to parenting, food to football have allowed her to achieve a diverse portfolio of professionally published work. She resides in Temecula and works actively to tell the stories of her community.

Maggie Avants, education editor

Maggie’s first experience with newspapers was delivering them in the fifth grade. She then found her passion for news writing several years ago when she took a journalism class at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. After she began writing a column in a community newspaper, she decided to return to school to complete her journalism degree. From 2008-2010, she was on the editorial staff at The Telescope at Palomar College. She graduated in spring 2010 with a degree in journalism. She has worked as a contract administrator for a new home builder in Temecula, as well as an office manager for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest County. Maggie is a Murrieta resident since 2004.
