Update: The Riverside County Coroner’s office released the name of the man killed in the RV accident in Lake Elsinore as 50-year-old David Dobbs of Lake Elsinore.
Update: CHP spokesperson Nathan Baer is reporting the man who crashed his RV into Lazy J’s Roadhouse was barreling at speeds up to 60 mph before the collision.
“The man was driving southbound on Grand Avenue, north of Gregory Place in a Gulf-Stream motorhome,” Baer explained.
He added witnesses reported the vehicle as driving recklessly leading up to the crash. The male driver was trapped in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Original Story: A recreational vehicle crashed today into a restaurant in Lake Elsinore, killing the driver, but there were no reports of injuries to patrons or bystanders.
The crash happened around 9:50 a.m. at 18815 Grand Ave., according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The RV driver apparently lost control and slammed into a wall of Lazy Joe’s Restaurant, a fire department spokeswoman said.
Fire crews had to stabilize the structure and extricate the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 11 a.m., the spokeswoman said.
The driver was not immediately identified.
Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the crash.
