Palm Desert hiker with moderate injuries airlifted to safety

Firefighters called for a helicopter to hoist an injured hiker to safety near Palm Desert today, a county fire department spokeswoman said.

The incident was reported at 11:25 a.m. about two miles up the “Bump and Grind” trail. Firefighters were initially going to hike down with the hiker, a woman, then called for a helicopter, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.

The woman’s injuries were initially described as minor to moderate.
