According to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report, Temecula police officers responded to a call about an attempted robbery at 3:52 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Denny’s restaurant located at Rancho California Rd. in Old Town Temecula.

“Officers were notified of the robbery attempt after a lone suspect, described as a white male adult in his early to mid-twenties, approximately 5-foot-10, having a slightly husky build and short dark hair, brandished what appeared to be a dark-colored replica handgun to a female cashier,” the report said.

The cashier grabbed the suspect’s arm and screamed when he attempted to steal the cash from the register.

Some customers chased the suspect as he fled through the front door, but the man was able to escape — without the money.

Investigators are pursing leads based on evidence recovered at the scene, officials said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Temecula Police Department Detective Bureau at 951-696-3000.
