Riverside County’s unemployment rate was unchanged last month at 12 percent, as job growth in most sectors offset sizable losses in others.

The county’s non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate in October did not fluctuate from September, according to the California Employment Development Department.
The rate, however, was 1.5 percentage points below the level of a year ago, when unemployment stood at 13.5 percent.
Riverside County’s civilian labor force numbered 937,300 people, with 112,700 out of work, according to figures.
Cabazon had the highest unemployment rate countywide, at 29.5 percent, followed by Mecca at 23.8 percent and Homeland at 23.3 percent, according to the EDD.
The combined unemployment rate for Riverside and San Bernardino counties in October was 11.7 percent, up from 11.6 percent the prior month.
Bi-county data indicated that payrolls expanded in all but the construction and manufacturing sectors, which shed a total 3,800 jobs in October. Another 400 jobs were cut in non-categorized industries. Public sector payrolls grew by the largest amount — 6,000 — as teachers and other workers in grade schools and colleges returned from summer recess.
Trade, transportation and utilities, along with the professional and business services sector, together added 4,100 positions. The remaining sectors, including agriculture, boosted employment by 3,300.
The state’s non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 9.8 percent.
