Original Story: A man was shot by police in Indio and taken to a hospital, a police spokesman said today.
An officer was on patrol about 11:30 p.m., Thursday Feb. 14 in the 82-400 block of Miles Avenue when he saw a “suspicious person” riding a bicycle and tried to stop him.
The man rode between two buildings to avoid the officer, then returned to Miles and got into a “confrontation” with the officer, who shot him, Indio Police Department spokesman Ben Guitron said.
The man was transported to a local hospital and his condition today was unclear.
The officer, whose name was withheld, was not injured and no one else was hurt, Guitron said.
Miles between Palm and Arabia streets was closed for the investigation.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting and Indio Police Department will do an administrative review, which is department policy.
