Type “FanDuel” and “Rollbit” into the same search and what you get back isn't really a rivalry — it's two operators built for audiences that barely overlap. FanDuel grew out of a 2009 daily fantasy site into a state-licensed US sportsbook now wholly owned by Flutter Entertainment. Rollbit launched in 2020 as a crypto casino, sportsbook, and futures-trading platform that has never once let an American register. One of them a US reader can open today. The other, structurally, never was an option.

Is FanDuel Legal — Is Rollbit Even an Option?

FanDuel's answer is a state map: 24 states plus Washington D.C. as of September 2026, with Arkansas the newest addition on March 20, 2026. Outside that map, there is no FanDuel sportsbook to open — only the separate DFS product. Rollbit doesn't have a state map to check, because the block sits at the country level. It excludes the United States along with roughly 28 other jurisdictions, including a cluster of European markets, Mexico, and Colombia, while remaining reachable in an estimated 166 others.

Is Rollbit Legit? The Lapsed License, Explained

Rollbit holds Curaçao license OGL/2024/1260/0494, and that license passed its expiry date on May 23, 2026. As of this comparison the Curaçao Gaming Authority's own register still lists it under assessment rather than confirmed renewed, while the certificate page Rollbit itself links to now reads revoked. That isn't proof of a scam — six years of continuous, high-volume operation and an in-house game studio point to a real business — but until the regulator resolves the renewal, the honest read is that Rollbit is currently operating unlicensed, not licensed.

FanDuel has no equivalent question hanging over it. Its authority comes from individual, currently active state licenses, not a single offshore certificate that can lapse overnight. That structural difference, not brand size, is the real gap between these two.

How Safe Is Each One, Practically?

In a live FanDuel state, safety means a named regulator, enforced geolocation, and self-exclusion tools a player can actually use. Rollbit gives a US reader nothing to weigh, because it won't open an account for one in the first place — and its terms treat a VPN used to fake a location as a breach of the agreement, a clause that tends to bite hardest at withdrawal, once identity verification surfaces where a player really is.

Who Each One Actually Fits

  • US readers in a live FanDuel state: FanDuel is the regulated option, full stop — a state license beats an operator that will not even let you register.
  • US readers in a dark FanDuel state: Rollbit still is not the fallback. Bovada, which does accept US accounts, is the closer real alternative for crypto-first banking.
  • Non-US crypto players: Rollbit's rakeback structure and futures-trading feature are genuinely distinctive — size deposits conservatively until the license question resolves.

Neither platform turns betting into income. FanDuel is entertainment for adults 21+ where its sportsbook is actually licensed; Rollbit is the same, with a house edge, for the players outside the US it currently serves.
