FanDuel Brazil turns up in two completely different stories, and only one of them is actually a FanDuel product. There is no FanDuel sportsbook license on file with the Secretaria de Prêmios e Apostas, Brazil's federal betting regulator — and the FanDuel name a Brazilian sports fan might actually recognize belongs to a paid fantasy-football deal with Grupo Globo, not a bet slip.

Two Things Called “FanDuel” in Brazil

FanDuel the US sportsbook and FanDuel the Brazilian product are not the same thing. The sportsbook Americans use is licensed state by state and has never held a license from Brazil's SPA. Separately, FanDuel signed a multi-year agreement with Grupo Globo back in November 2021 to build Cartola Express, a paid add-on to Globo's enormous free fantasy-football game, Cartola FC. That deal is real and still runs under FanDuel's involvement — but it is fantasy sports, scored against real match stats, not fixed-odds betting against a sportsbook.

The split: “Can I bet on sports through FanDuel from Brazil?” (no — no SPA license) versus “Does FanDuel have any product in Brazil at all?” (yes — Cartola Express, a daily-fantasy contest, not a sportsbook).

Is FanDuel Legal in Brazil? What the SPA Actually Requires

Brazil built a real federal licensing regime for fixed-odds sports betting under Law 14.790/2023, with the SPA — a unit of the Ministry of Finance — approving operators who applied by an August 2024 deadline. Only licensed platforms were allowed to keep operating once the regime took effect on January 1, 2025, and the approved list now runs to roughly 70-plus brands, including Bet365, Betano, Betfair, Stake, and Sportingbet. FanDuel applied for nothing and holds no slot on that list. For a Brazilian resident, that means there is no legal FanDuel sportsbook account to open in 2026 — regardless of what the US brand looks like from outside the country.

Where Flutter Actually Operates in Brazil

FanDuel's parent company, Flutter Entertainment, is not absent from Brazil — it just doesn't use the FanDuel brand there. Flutter folded its existing Betfair Brazil business into a combined Brazilian entity in 2024, then in 2025 completed a roughly $350 million deal to take a majority stake in NSX Group, parent company of Betnacional, one of the country's largest licensed operators. That gives Flutter a genuine, SPA-licensed footprint in Brazil — through Betfair Brazil and Betnacional, the same way its Sportsbet brand is licensed in Australia instead of FanDuel. The corporate relationship is real; the brand on the app is not FanDuel.

Cartola Express: FanDuel's Actual Brazil Product

The one place the FanDuel name genuinely touches Brazil is Cartola Express, built on top of Grupo Globo's Cartola FC — a fantasy-football game with roots going back two decades and a huge existing Brazilian audience. FanDuel's 2021 deal added a paid tier run by DFS Entretenimento on Aspire Global's BtoBet platform, and by 2024 that product had expanded into contests around Formula 1, the NFL, the NBA, Copa América, and the Olympics alongside its football core. It is a real, ongoing commercial relationship — just a fantasy-sports contest paying out on roster performance, not a sportsbook taking bets on game outcomes.

Is It Safe to Reach FanDuel's Sportsbook From Brazil Anyway?

No regulator backs that connection. Brazil has blocked tens of thousands of unlicensed betting domains through the telecom regulator Anatel since 2024, and under Law 14.790 banks and payment processors are required to cut off transactions tied to flagged operators, with fines up to R$2 billion per violation facing the operators themselves. None of FanDuel's US sportsbook infrastructure was built with an SPA license in mind, so a Brazilian resident trying to reach it is working around geolocation on a product with no Brazilian authorization and no SPA consumer protections behind it. The licensed options — Bet365, Betano, Betfair, Betnacional, Stake, and the rest of the SPA registry — exist precisely so that doesn't have to happen. Betting should stay entertainment, never a plan for income.
