FanDuel Missouri has run as a licensed mobile sportsbook since December 3, 2025, two days behind the rest of the field. That lag is the whole story here: Missouri's sports-betting market opened December 1, 2025, the last date Amendment 2 allowed, and FanDuel wasn't in the first wave that launched that morning.

Why FanDuel Was Late: It Lost the License It Wanted

Missouri built its market around two tiers of mobile license. “Untethered” licenses, priced at $500,000, let an operator run online without tying itself to a Missouri casino or pro sports team. “Tethered” licenses, at $250,000, require that partnership. Only two untethered slots existed, and in mid-August 2025 the Missouri Gaming Commission handed both to DraftKings and Circa Sports — not FanDuel, even though FanDuel had applied and was considered a favorite.

The workaround: days after losing the untethered bid, FanDuel announced a partnership with St. Louis CITY SC, Major League Soccer's St. Louis club, giving it the professional-team tether Missouri requires for the cheaper license tier. Other states tie FanDuel to a casino floor; Missouri tied it to a soccer club.

Is FanDuel Legit in Missouri?

Yes — losing the untethered bid is a business setback, not a trust problem. FanDuel still operates under full Missouri Gaming Commission licensing, the same 10% adjusted-gross-receipts tax applies to it as to every other operator, and the MGC retains the same audit and enforcement authority regardless of which license tier an operator holds. A reader shouldn't confuse “passed over for the premium license” with “not a real sportsbook.”

What Amendment 2 Actually Covers

Missouri voters approved Amendment 2 in November 2024 by a margin of roughly a tenth of a percentage point — thin enough that late county results shifted the lead by thousands of votes before the state certified it. The measure legalized sports wagering only. It did not touch online casino games, and nothing has changed that: the 2026 legislative session closed without a single iGaming bill filed in Jefferson City. Because Missouri expands gambling by constitutional amendment rather than ordinary statute, any future online-casino push would need its own statewide vote — realistic estimates put that no earlier than 2027 or 2028.

Who It Fits

Adults 21+ in Missouri who want a licensed, MGC-regulated sportsbook and don't mind that FanDuel got there as a tethered operator instead of one of the two untethered ones. There is no FanDuel online casino to look for here, and there won't be for years. Treat any deposit as entertainment spending, not income. 1-800-GAMBLER.
