Where is Kalshi located? The short answer is Manhattan — 594 Broadway, to be specific, a SoHo office building a few blocks from Prince Street. The longer answer involves a founding city that isn’t New York at all, and a corporate structure where the address on the door isn’t the entity that actually holds the federal license.

From a San Francisco Startup to SoHo

Kalshi didn’t start in New York. Tarek Mansour and Luana Lopes Lara, MIT classmates, founded the company in San Francisco in 2018, and it stayed a San Francisco operation through its first major regulatory milestone — the CFTC’s November 2020 order designating KalshiEX LLC as a contract market lists the exchange as based in San Francisco. The public launch followed in July 2021. Sometime after that, the company consolidated its headquarters in Manhattan, where it now runs day to day out of 594 Broadway, Suite 407, in SoHo.

Not a Nevada or DC address either: because Kalshi is a federally designated exchange rather than a state-licensed sportsbook, it has no reason to keep an office in a gaming capital like Las Vegas or in Washington, DC near the CFTC. The SoHo address is simply where the company chose to build its trading and engineering team.

The Entity Behind the Exchange

Kalshi Inc. is the Delaware corporation that sits at the top of the structure and the name investors and the press use. It is not, however, the entity that holds the CFTC designation. That status belongs to KalshiEX LLC, a Delaware limited liability company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Kalshi Inc. — the exchange itself operates under that separate name on regulatory filings. A related affiliate, Kalshi Klear, handles trade clearing, the function a traditional exchange would hand off to an outside clearinghouse. Kalshi Inc. owns all of it; regulators deal with the subsidiaries directly.

Three names, one company: Kalshi Inc. is the Delaware parent headquartered in SoHo. KalshiEX LLC is the Delaware-formed subsidiary that actually holds the CFTC contract market designation. Kalshi Klear is the affiliate that clears the trades.

Why There’s No State License in This Story

A DraftKings or FanDuel “where is it located” page ends with a list of state-licensed subsidiaries, because sportsbooks are licensed state by state. Kalshi isn’t one of those. KalshiEX LLC is designated by the CFTC, a federal regulator, to list event contracts nationally — there is no equivalent of a New Jersey or Pennsylvania gaming license anywhere in the structure. That is exactly why several states are currently suing over whether their own gambling laws still reach Kalshi’s sports contracts at all; the company’s answer is that a federal DCM designation already covers the ground a state license would.

The Short Version

Kalshi is headquartered today at 594 Broadway, Suite 407, in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood, after starting life as a San Francisco startup in 2018. The parent, Kalshi Inc., is a Delaware corporation; the exchange that actually trades event contracts operates under a separate Delaware subsidiary, KalshiEX LLC, with Kalshi Klear handling clearing. None of it runs through a state gaming license, because the CFTC — not a state regulator — is the body that designated it.
