BetMGM is not legal in India, and there is no license filing, BetMGM.in domain, or announced launch date suggesting that is close to changing. What separates this country page from most of BetMGM's other unlaunched markets is which MGM project actually did turn up here — and it was not a casino. In 2011, a non-gaming MGM division signed on to run a hotel tower in New Delhi. Nobody has confirmed since whether it ever opened.

Is BetMGM Legal in India? The 2025 Act Closed the Door Nationwide

Gambling in India has traditionally been a state matter. A handful of states — Goa, Sikkim, and the union territory of Daman — license land-based casinos inside five-star hotels or on riverboats, while colonial-era public gambling acts ban them almost everywhere else. Online real-money play used to follow a similar patchwork; Sikkim had even passed its own Online Gaming (Regulation) Act back in 2008. That patchwork is no longer the operative law. Parliament passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 in August 2025, and its rules took effect nationwide on May 1, 2026, creating a new federal regulator, the Online Gaming Authority of India, inside the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. It bans “online money games” outright — fantasy sports, poker, rummy, casino games, sports betting, all of it — regardless of whether a court would call the game skill or chance, and regardless of what any state, including Sikkim, previously allowed online.

What the ban actually reaches: real-money fantasy sports, online poker, rummy, casino games, and sports betting are all swept into one federal prohibition. Banks and payment processors are barred from handling deposits or withdrawals for any of it, and enforcement had blocked roughly 8,400 betting and gambling URLs as of March 2026.

The MGM Name in India: A Hotel, Not a Casino

Here is the detail that makes an India search for this brand different from, say, Mexico, where neither BetMGM owner has any Indian footprint at all. In 2011, MGM Hospitality — a non-gaming division of MGM Resorts International, with no organizational tie to the BetMGM joint venture Entain co-owns — signed a deal with Silver Resort Hotel India to manage an MGM Grand and Skylofts tower in New Delhi, part of a wider plan that later added a Bellagio, MGM Grand, and Skylofts complex in Mumbai. The original Delhi target was an early-2014 opening. No public record confirms that date was met, and nothing in the years since ties either project to betting, wagering, or any gaming license. It is a hospitality licensing deal that may or may not still be standing, sitting several org-chart levels away from the sportsbook this site reviews.

Two MGM footprints in India, neither one BetMGM:

  • MGM Hospitality: 2011 hotel-management deal in New Delhi, status unconfirmed since its 2014 target passed
  • MGM/Bellagio Mumbai: later hotel plan, same non-gaming division, opening date unclear
  • BetMGM: zero license applications, zero launch history, now blocked nationally by the 2025 Act regardless

Is BetMGM Legit? There Is Nothing Indian to Measure

Outside India, yes — BetMGM is a real, state-licensed US sportsbook and a provincially licensed Canadian one, backed by the publicly traded MGM Resorts International and Entain. None of that answers the India question, because legitimacy in review terms means an actual license in the market being asked about, and no Indian regulator, state or federal, has ever listed BetMGM.

Is It Safe to Use BetMGM From India?

There's no BetMGM account to open from India, safely or otherwise. The 2025 Act specifically targets the money layer: banks and payment intermediaries cannot legally process deposits or withdrawals tied to online money games, which shuts the door on an offshore workaround through BetMGM or any comparable brand just as firmly as it shuts the door on a direct license.

What Can an Indian Resident Legally Bet On?

Land-based play only, and only in specific places. Goa and Daman license casinos inside five-star hotels and on riverboats under the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976. Sikkim caps its own casino licenses at two hotels and, since a 2016 notification, admits tourists only — not residents. None of it is online, and none of it is BetMGM.

Who It Fits

No one, as an India-specific product — there is nothing to sign up for, and a decade-old hotel deal under a different MGM division doesn't change that. A Supreme Court challenge to the 2025 Act was accepted for final hearing on August 5, 2026, but even a favorable ruling would most likely restore the old state-by-state patchwork, not hand a brand with zero Indian history a national license. Betting, wherever it's legal, should stay entertainment spending, never income.
