BetMGM vs Caesars Sportsbook looks, from the ad campaigns, like a battle of two Las Vegas Strip institutions duking it out over the same betting slip. Neither app is quite what its casino-floor name implies. BetMGM answers to two owners, not one. Caesars Sportsbook did not start as a Caesars product at all — it is a repainted William Hill. This comparison is about what is actually behind each login screen, not which marquee looks bigger.

Is BetMGM Legit? Is Caesars Legit?

Both, yes, and for similar reasons: a publicly traded casino operator with decades of land-based history stands behind each one. BetMGM is a 50/50 joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Entain, launched in 2018 and headquartered in Jersey City. Caesars Sportsbook is Caesars Entertainment\'s digital arm, built on the William Hill US business it bought for roughly $4 billion in a deal that closed in April 2021, rebranded that August. One is a two-parent joint venture that has never fully consolidated; the other is a single-owner rebrand of an older bookmaker\'s technology stack.

Footprint: BetMGM Ahead, Barely

As of September 2026, BetMGM Sportsbook is live in 23 states plus Washington D.C., most recently adding Missouri on December 1, 2025. Caesars Sportsbook covers roughly two dozen jurisdictions plus D.C., including Maine — a state BetMGM does not reach. The gap between the two is small enough that it can flip with the next legislative session; a reader deciding between them should check their own state\'s page rather than trust either count as permanent.

Neither has a fallback in dark states. Unlike FanDuel or DraftKings, neither BetMGM nor Caesars operates a separate daily fantasy product to point a California or Texas reader toward. If the sportsbook isn’t licensed there, there is nothing else in the app to use instead.

Casino: Same Four States, Different Names

BetMGM Casino and Caesars Palace Online Casino cover almost identical ground — Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia for both. Neither brand\'s casino product tracks its own sportsbook footprint; Nevada and Arizona, for example, get the sportsbook from both brands but the online casino from neither. If online casino is the deciding factor, this comparison is close to a wash and comes down to which sportsbook is licensed in your state to begin with.

The Welcome Offers Work Differently

BetMGM\'s sportsbook offer is a loss-refund structure: place a qualifying first bet, and a loss comes back as bonus bets up to $1,500, expiring in seven days. Caesars runs a different mechanic — one qualifying $1+ wager unlocks ten 100% profit-boost tokens, each good for bets between $1 and $25 at long odds, usable over the following two weeks. Caesars\' tokens only pay out on a win; BetMGM\'s offer pays out on a loss. Neither is free money — both carry conditions that reduce what actually becomes withdrawable cash.

Which One for Who

If only one of the two is licensed in your state, that settles it — read the state page, not this comparison. If both are live, lean BetMGM if the extra state or two of sportsbook footprint matters more than a Maine listing, or if you already use a sister MGM property like Borgata. Lean Caesars if you want a loyalty-adjacent brand tied to a wider network of physical casino properties, or prefer a win-triggered profit boost over a loss-triggered bonus-bet refund. In a dark state, neither has anything to offer, and no comparison changes that. If gambling stops being entertainment, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
