Fanatics is not legal in Sweden. There's no Spelinspektionen license under the Fanatics name, no Fanatics.se, nothing to open an account on. On its own that's not unusual — most US sportsbooks have no Swedish product. What makes Fanatics different from its own peer group is that every other major US-built sportsbook this site has checked against Sweden had some kind of quiet way in. Fanatics has none.

Is Fanatics Legal in Sweden? No, and No Borrowed License Either

Sweden has regulated online gambling under the Spellagen since January 1, 2019, with Spelinspektionen as the sole licensor for online casino and sports betting, and a 22% tax on gross gaming revenue since July 2024. Fanatics Betting and Gaming does not appear on Spelinspektionen's operator register and has never applied. Its sportsbook stays geofenced to 23 US states plus D.C.; its casino product reaches four of those states; the only international betting move it has disclosed is a joint venture targeting a future UAE license, nowhere near Sweden.

Is Fanatics legal in Sweden? No. There is no Spelinspektionen license under the Fanatics name, and unlike BetMGM, Caesars, or FanDuel, there is no licensed parent-company sibling or inherited acquisition standing in for one.

Three Rivals Found a Way In. Fanatics Didn't.

BetMGM.se has been live since October 23, 2024 — not on a license BetMGM applied for itself, but on one already held by LeoVegas Group, which MGM Resorts bought in 2022. Caesars had an even stranger run: it briefly owned a real, trading, Spelinspektionen-licensed Swedish site, WilliamHill.se, for about fifteen months after buying William Hill's global business in April 2021, before selling the non-US business to 888 Holdings in July 2022. FanDuel itself holds no Swedish license, but its owner Flutter Entertainment has run PokerStars.se under a license since January 2019 — Flutter just never routed FanDuel through it. Each of those three had a door standing open somewhere in the corporate structure.

Fanatics doesn't. It wasn't built on an acquired book with European licenses attached — its US footprint came from buying PointsBet's American business only. It has no publicly held, Swedish-licensed sister brand the way MGM Resorts and Flutter both do. The gap in Sweden isn't a missed opportunity so much as a structural one: there's no existing license anywhere in the Fanatics corporate family for a Swedish launch to borrow against.

US sportsbook brands in Sweden, side by side:

  • BetMGM: legal, live since October 2024 via LeoVegas Group's license
  • Caesars: restricted now, but owned a licensed Swedish site April 2021 – July 2022
  • FanDuel: restricted directly, but owner Flutter runs licensed PokerStars.se since 2019
  • Fanatics: restricted, with no license, inherited license, or licensed sibling anywhere in Sweden

No Retail Deal Either, Unlike Most of Western Europe

Fanatics' European business isn't only betting — it runs e-commerce and club-shop operations for England's FA, France's FFF, Belgium's RBFA, and clubs across England, Scotland, and Italy. None of that public dealmaking names Sweden. A search of Swedish Football Association and Allsvenskan club-shop news turns up other suppliers running those arrangements instead — not a Fanatics deal that fell apart, just one that, publicly, was never on the table.

Is It Safe to Use a Site Claiming to Be Fanatics From Sweden?

No. Without a Spelinspektionen license under the Fanatics name, and without a licensed sibling brand to point to, any site marketing itself as Fanatics to Swedish users sits entirely outside the regulator's framework — no Spelpaus connection, no licensed deposit tools, no regulatory recourse.

Who It Fits

Nobody searching for Fanatics specifically from Sweden — there is no license, no borrowed one, and no retail deal standing in either. Swedish readers after a licensed operator should check Spelinspektionen's own register, or this site's BetMGM Sweden page for a US-affiliated brand that actually operates there. US and D.C. readers after the real Fanatics Sportsbook should check this site's state pages instead. 18+, and Spelpaus applies to every licensed Swedish operator regardless of ownership history.
