Is Polymarket legit? Split the question the way the company itself is split, into a real corporation and a much murkier paper trail, and the answer stops being a single word. Blockratize Inc., the Delaware company behind the brand, is verifiably real and growing. The entity nominally running the international site is a lot harder to pin down.
The Real Half: Blockratize Inc.
Shayne Coplan founded Blockratize and still runs it as CEO from 78 Crosby Street in Manhattan’s SoHo, a building the company has occupied since 2023 and expanded within as recently as August 2026. Investors including Intercontinental Exchange and 1789 Capital have taken stakes through 2026 funding rounds that pushed the company’s valuation toward $21 billion. None of that is consistent with an anonymous or fly-by-night operation — it is a heavily funded, publicly discussed company with a name, a street address, and a payout record stretching back through the 2024 US election markets that made Polymarket a household name.
Is Polymarket a Scam?
No, and the distinction matters. A scam takes money and either does not pay winners or cannot be found once it is time to pay. Polymarket has settled and paid out markets at real scale for years, and its core operating company is easy to locate and has never disappeared. What Polymarket does have are two specific governance problems: a 2022 federal settlement, and an operator entity for its international platform that a reporting crew could not actually find in 2026. Those are legitimate reasons for caution. They are not the same claim as “this site steals deposits.”
The $1.4 million settlement, precisely. In January 2022 the CFTC found Blockratize had run an unregistered facility for event-based binary options and fined it $1.4 million, barring the platform from US customers. That is why polymarket.com still will not load for US IPs today — a regulatory violation from 2022, not a fraud finding against users’ money.
The Harder Half: Adventure One QSS Inc.
After the 2022 settlement pushed Blockratize out of operating polymarket.com for the world at large, operator responsibility passed to Adventure One QSS Inc., a company formed in Panama only months earlier. Its listed address sits on the 21st floor of the Oceania Business Plaza in Panama City. When NPR sent reporters there in 2026, they found an empty law-office lobby and a staffer who had never heard of Polymarket or Adventure One — despite Coplan himself having briefly served as the Panama company’s president in 2021–2022. That gap between “the entity of record” and “a place anyone actually works” is the single hardest fact to reconcile with a clean “yes, legit” answer.
Real and verifiable: Blockratize Inc. — Delaware corporation, staffed New York HQ, named CEO.
Regulatory record: $1.4M CFTC settlement, January 2022, for an unregistered trading facility.
Unverified on the ground: Adventure One QSS Inc. — Panama address NPR found empty in 2026.
Cleaner US rail: QCX LLC / Polymarket US — CFTC-designated DCM, Florida filings, relaunched December 2025.
Where the US Relaunch Fits
Polymarket US, run through the CFTC-designated exchange QCX LLC that Polymarket bought for $112 million in July 2025, sits on noticeably firmer ground than the international site’s Panama structure: KYC’d accounts, dollar settlement, and a federal designation rather than an offshore workaround. That does not make it a risk-free product — it inherits the same 2026 state-versus-CFTC dispute over sports event contracts that Kalshi is fighting — but as a question of “is the entity itself legitimate,” it is the more straightforward yes of Polymarket’s two rails.
The Short Version
Polymarket is not a scam: its core company is real, funded, and has a long history of paying out what its markets resolve to. But “legit” on this brand comes with an asterisk that most reviews skip — a 2022 regulatory settlement, and an international-platform operator whose listed office nobody could find. Trust Blockratize’s payout record. Treat the Panama entity, and any market you fund through it, with the same caution the empty office earned.
