If you write one Polymarket legal paragraph for every state, you will be wrong in half of them. The brand name covers an international crypto exchange that US IPs cannot reach, and a CFTC-regulated US exchange that did not exist in this form until December 2025. Pick a rail before you pick a legalStatus.

The Split

International polymarket.com: USDC on Polygon, global liquidity, still the site the 2022 CFTC settlement ($1.4 million) kicked US customers off of. That geo-block did not expire. Polymarket US: QCX LLC, a DCM Polymarket acquired, relaunched December 2025, waitlist removed May 2026, KYC, dollars. Sports event contracts on the US rail walk into the same state-AG war Kalshi is in.

Never reuse 2023 copy. “Polymarket is illegal in the United States” was a fair summary of the international site. It is not a fair summary of QCX in 2026, and it is not a fair summary of a country page either — blocked-country lists move and disagree. Verify the year and the URL.

Who It Fits

Non-US users on the crypto rail where the site actually loads. US users only on Polymarket US, and only where that exchange is taking customers this month. If you wanted a state-licensed sportsbook, that is DraftKings. If you wanted a US-native DCM without the crypto history, that is Kalshi. Event contracts can go to zero. This is not income.
