Is Fanatics legal in New Zealand? No — and it's a flatter no than the one on Fanatics' Australia page. There, Fanatics at least has to clear up a real point of confusion: it bought PointsBet's US sportsbook business, and PointsBet is an Australian company with an actual Australian operation still running under different ownership. New Zealand doesn't hand Fanatics even that thread to untangle. There was never a PointsBet presence here, and there is no Fanatics presence here either.

Is Fanatics Legal in New Zealand?

No. The Racing Industry Amendment Act 2025 received Royal Assent on 27 June 2025 and took effect the next day, giving TAB NZ the sole legal right to accept online sports and racing bets from anyone physically inside New Zealand. Every offshore operator lost standing to take that bet at the same moment — the law doesn't name Fanatics or any other brand, because a blanket monopoly makes that unnecessary. Fanatics has never held a New Zealand wagering license and gets no transitional window under the new regime.

Where Fanatics sits against New Zealand's two new gambling laws:

  • April 2024 — Fanatics closes its $225M PointsBet acquisition; deal structured US-only, no New Zealand connection to carve out in the first place
  • 27 June 2025 — Racing Industry Amendment Act hands TAB NZ an online betting monopoly; Fanatics not named, not exempt, not previously licensed here
  • 1 May 2026 — Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 takes effect, building a licensed casino market
  • 29 Sep–12 Oct 2026 — license auction runs 10 rounds among 32 bidders; Fanatics did not enter
  • 13 Oct 2026 — DIA names 11 winning entities for 15 license rights; Fanatics is not one of them

Where's the PointsBet Connection? There Isn't One

Fanatics' Australia page has to spend real space explaining that PointsBet's board carved its home-market wagering business out of the April 2024 sale before signing, so Fanatics walked away with only PointsBet's US licenses. That explanation doesn't transfer to New Zealand, because PointsBet never built a sports bookmaker license or customer base here to carve out. The acquisition that built Fanatics' US sportsbook simply never touched this country, in either direction.

Fanatics Is Expanding Internationally — Just Not Here

That's not the same as Fanatics having no interest beyond the US. Fanatics Casino launched in Ontario, Canada on September 1, 2026 under a registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario — the company's actual first move outside the United States, with FBG president Conor Grant naming Alberta as a 2027 target. New Zealand hasn't surfaced in any of that expansion talk, public filing, or executive interview.

Did Fanatics Bid for a New Zealand Casino License?

No. New Zealand's Department of Internal Affairs ran an ascending clock auction for 15 online casino license rights between late September and mid-October 2026, drawing 32 bidders at roughly NZ$15 million per right. The eleven entities that cleared it include TAB New Zealand, two SkyCity online entities, and Stake New Zealand Limited, alongside several smaller operators splitting the rest. Fanatics skipped the expression-of-interest stage that preceded the auction and never appeared among the 32 bidders.

Is It Safe to Try Reaching Fanatics From New Zealand Anyway?

No regulator in New Zealand stands behind that connection. Fanatics Sportsbook is geofenced to its 23 live US states plus Washington D.C., and Fanatics Casino is geofenced to Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and now Ontario — not built to take a New Zealand signup. The DIA has already been issuing enforcement notices to offshore operators advertising into the country, and working around geofencing breaches Fanatics' own account terms on top of New Zealand law.

Who It Fits

Nobody searching from New Zealand today. TAB NZ is the only lawful online sports and racing betting option, and the eleven named casino auction winners — not Fanatics — are the list worth watching as licenses finalize into 2027. Betting should stay entertainment spending wherever it's actually offered; the Gambling Helpline at 0800 654 655 covers every licensed operator in the country.
